Here is a list of the sites I highly recommend following. Most are not blogs, but are worker-owned news outlets. Many of them have to rely on paywalls or donations to sustain themselves in this society. Paying them is well worth it to recieve the kind of ad-free coverage of niche topics nobody else reports on.
- 404 Media — Their stories cover the societal impact of technology. Most others are really just doing business news about companies in the tech sector and calling it technology news.
- Julia Evans — The best dang tutorials and zines for actual programming and computer use.
- Mothership — Independent gaming journalism from the viewpoint of people who are not straight white men.
- Rascal — Basically the only real journalism of tabletop space, in particular the indie TTRPG space.
- Aftermath — Worker-owned gaming journalism covering mostly video games, but also technology, labor, and anime.
- Rogue — Even more independent video game journalism.
- Anime Herald — Not news, but lots of great think-pieces about anime and interviews as well.
- The City Reporter — The real local news for New York City
- Hell Gate — Worker-owned NYC news that is a bit more openly leftist.
- Streetsblog — The news for people who hate cars.
